From the reading trenches

There’s an interesting update at the ACLU blog on the Omar Khadr case.

It made me think of this quote in Robert Fisk’s The Great War for Civilization, my current reading project:

“War is primarily not about victory or defeat but about death and the infliction of death. It represents the total failure of the human spirit.”

And yes, okay, those of you who have read the book (show offs) may notice that this is a quote from the preface, page xix, and you may notice that I forgot to even include the preface in my page count and three-year reading plan.

In my defense, I am actually on page 22. And I had to spend quite a long time studying the map, lest I be mistaken for one of the Americans in Rick Mercer interviews who don’t notice that Australia is labeled as Iraq…
