There is this wonderful stage of the book-creation process in which all the writing and illustrations are done, and no one has yet said the word “index,” and I get to see designed pages for the first time. So exciting!
I’ve just received the first page proofs for my Fall 2015 book, DNA Detective. And I LOVE them. Apparently, the designer has never worked on a children’s book before, but has always wanted to. I think she may have found her calling.
(I am probably not supposed to post this yet. It hasn’t been proofread and it’s quite possible the art hasn’t been approved/purchased, but… well, it’s too late for them to fire me. It’s it fun?)
Hopefully I’ll be able to post a cover soon!
Okay, that IS fun. I think your designer nailed it.
Thanks, Jax!
This is my first peek at the layout. It’s great to see it come together!
Lil! So nice to electronically meet you! You completely outdid yourself on this project — the illustrations are amazing, and I love your quirky sense of humour. I wish we didn’t live on opposite coasts, so we could toast the project in person. But hopefully our paths will cross. Thanks for stopping by the blog! (And you should ask Annick to send you the full layout. It’s really fun.)
Thanks, you’re too kind:) Yes would love to toast the project together. My husband and daughter are going out to Vancouver in April, but I’m staying home to hang out with our aging dog. But perhaps another time. Actually I think I will ask for the layout…don’t think I can wait until release date. It’s coming out in fall isn’t it?
I heard it went to the printer yesterday. 🙂
