I can draw a stick figure running into a tree

I must have become a writer through pure force of determination, because most days I’m convinced that creativity-wise, I suck. I can’t draw to save my life (with the exception of cartoon dog faces and the above-mentioned stick figure), I have zero musical ability, and my sewing skills can barely hold two pieces of cloth together.

Despite this, or perhaps because of it, one of my favorite “artsy craftsy” books is The Creative Family by Amanda Soule. She’s like an earthy version of Martha Stewart. Except with an actual family to manage. And, now that I think about it, absolutely nothing in common with Martha at all.

On Amanda’s blog today, I found this link to an interview with Mo Willems about why adults should spend more time drawing, even if their drawings are crap.

I’m off to perfect those stick men…
