This week, San Diego Momma’s freewrite topic is school supplies. Here are my thoughts on the subject:
There were always “those girls” (you know the ones) with the 64 pack of crayons with the built-in sharpener. I loved that box. I coveted that box. Every time we went school supply shopping with The List that specified which kind of pencil leads and which color of eraser to buy, I stared at the crayon box with the built-in sharpener.
Then, when I went home with the standard 12- or 24-pack, the one specified on The List, I swore to myself that once I had children of my own I was definitely, totally, completely, 100% buying them the 64-pack. And not only that! When they had pencil crayons, and the peacock blue or the scarlet wore down to a nub, even though the other colors were all still perfectly fine, I was going directly to the store to buy them brand new packs. You can’t possibly color sky properly without that particular blue.
Well, kids, sorry in advance. As part of the ongoing battle to protect you from lives as spoiled and sanctimonious mini-snobs (like that spiky haired tween in the headphones who rolled his eyes at me when I stopped at the crosswalk for him last week… ’cause he was obviously way too cool for crosswalks), I have decided NOT to buy the built-in sharpener. You can call Social Services at your leisure.
