Merry Christmas!

We woke up to this outside the bedroom window this morning:

snowday

If there’s one thing I’ve learned after living in Vancouver for almost two decades, it’s this: take advantage of snow IMMEDIATELY. If you wait until you’ve brushed your teeth, it will have melted into a slushy mess.

By 9:30 a.m., the Kyi family had eaten grilled cheese sandwiches (which really should be a breakfast food everywhere), gone sledding, built a snowman, delivered several gifts, and shovelled the driveway.

When I dropped the kids off at their classrooms, other parents were talking about an after-school sledding trip. I just nodded sagely, congratulating myself on the three perfect runs down an as-yet unmarked hill. (I would have looked even wiser if I hadn’t been soaking wet. Somehow, I managed to get snow pants onto everyone except myself.)

Now I’m snug at home with a coffee and a computer and a few more precious hours of silence. But with everyone winding up work and school, I’m thinking it’s time to fully embrace the Christmas season as well as the snow. I’m signing off the blog until the new year.

A Merry Christmas to you all!
