The perfect reading spot

Is there anything better than a sunny campsite, a chair, and a great book? I’m just back from a weekend at Sasquatch Provincial Park, which (despite the lack of flush toilets) is my new favourite camping destination. A little swim in Hicks Lake took care of all my summer lake-swimming cravings. And Hicks Lake was approximately one billion times warmer than Kootenay Lake, where I grew up.

To top it off, I got in a few hours of reading Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz, a YA recommended by fellow writer Kallie George.

The first chapters had a lovely, Hemmingway-esque style, but they were a little lacking in direction. Forget right now that I told you that, though, because once I was into the story, I wanted it to never stop. I wish Aristotle and Dante lived next door, so we could hang out. Maybe I could dog-sit.

It gets 5/5 stars, for making me laugh out loud and cry. Sometimes at the same time. Plus an extra star for most gorgeous cover ever. Wouldn’t you agree?

Ha! Glad you enjoyed Hicks Lake despite the rustic facilities! Sorry to hear Kootenay Lake is frigid, though, since that’s our next destination…
