As I drove through Vancouver Island one day, past clearcuts and drought-stricken forests, I was listening to a radio interview with Ugandan climate justice activist Vanessa Nakate. She explained her work mobilizing climate action in Africa and around the world, and I kept thinking how overwhelming it was for these young activists to face the behemoth that is climate change — and yet still keep fighting for hope and for change. In my mind, Vanessa was like a tiny knight facing an enormous dragon. And that’s how When You Meet a Dragon was born.
